First Friday at CSUMB Salinas Center for Arts and Culture – Friday, March 2nd!

On March 2, 2018 from 5 – 9:15 pm CSUMB’s Salinas City Center will have a variety of free activities and events in English and Spanish. All are welcome.

First Friday at CSUMB Salinas Center will include:
– Free Arts workshops for kids by Hijos del Sol Arts Productions (5pm – 7pm)

– Concert by Mark Applebaum and Juan Manuel Campechano Yan (5:30pm – 7:30)
– A performance of Artist Ink’s Salinas Movement Project (7pm – 8:30 pm)
– Peña Cultural Open Mic, Poetry and Music (7pm – 9:15 pm)
– Lost Childhoods: the Unofficial Stories of Foster Youth exhibition
– Stories from Salinas photographic exhibition
– Latinx LGBTQ+ exhibition

All are welcome to this free, family friendly event in English and Spanish.

Events and exhibitions:

– Free Arts workshops for kids by Hijos del Sol Arts Productions (5pm – 7pm)
Create butterflies to add to the new exhibition in the center!
Make comic book pages about Salinas! All are welcome.
Workshops taught in English and Spanish by Hijos del Sol Arts Productions.

– The Salinas Movement Project is a theatrical production that uses film, photography, spoken word, music, graphic design, animation, and interactive apps to address issues that impact both our local community of Salinas and the nation.

 
Founded in 2013, Artists Ink’s mission has always been to develop impactful art/artists while honing youth voices and empowering them to take both their future and that of their communities into their own hands. Composed of Graphic designers, animators, directors, writers, performers and sound designers, Artists Ink is collaborative that encourages artists of all disciplines to come together and push the boundaries of traditional art and create work that builds community and inspires change.

“Refracted Traditions: The Music of Mark Applebaum + Son Jarocho with Juan Manuel Campechano Yan and Friends” 
Free! Here are two master artists from two very different traditions, from different places, with different technologies — experimental art music with electronic instruments and son jarocho with acoustic instruments.
