Father and Son
Father and Son is a special afternoon performance led by Artistic Advisor and Director of Choral Activities Andrew Megill offered on Sunday, July 16 and Sunday, July 23 at 4:00pm. Inspired by Carl Philipp Emanuel (C.P.E.) Bach’s 1786 Palm Sunday concert in Hamburg that honored his father Johann Sebastian (J.S.) Bach, this special program celebrates the Bach family’s legacy and the musical bond between father and son.
Father and Son is a partial re-enactment of the charitable concert that benefitted an association of doctors who provided free medical care to the impoverished of Hamburg and brought attention to the masterworks of his father.

Bach Dialogues
Don’t miss Bach Dialogues on Tuesday, July 18 and Tuesday, July 25 at 7:30pm. Bach Dialogues is the type of programming for which Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Grete Pedersen is best known and celebrated—curated repertoire from many eras, interspersed with each other to reveal the connections and contrasts in a pleasing, inspiring, and moving way. The centerpiece is Bach’s Magnificat, an exuberant 12-movement work that takes the listener on a musical journey with seemingly continuous ascending melodies. The work features an unusually large ensemble including five soloists, five-part choir, trumpets, timpani, and a full wind section.

Friday, July 21 and Friday, July 28
Mozart, Rehnqvist, Mahler: Breaking the Ice
Mozart, Rehnqvist, Mahler: Breaking the Ice will showcase the Festival Orchestra on Friday, July 21 and Friday, July 28 at 7:30PM with performances of Mozart’s triumphantly joyful Overture from his timeless comic opera The Marriage of Figaro and Mahler’s contrastingly tranquil song Blumine bookending the evening’s contemporary work.
“Breaking the Ice” from Arktis Arktis! by Karin Rehnqvist offers a rich soundscape inspired by her experience on a polar expedition. “The wide-open spaces, the wilderness, the light, the often-changing weather conditions,” says Rehnqvist, “all were overwhelming experiences which, after returning home to Sweden, I felt the need to express in musical terms.”
