THE LATIN GRAMMY CULTURAL FOUNDATION^® LAUNCHES ITS SEASON OF GIVING WITH THE JUANES SCHOLARSHIP

A four-year scholarship towards a bachelor’s degree at Berklee College of Music and 43 additional scholarships are available to students in need

MIAMI (DEC. 14, 2020) — The Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation^® announced today that it is accepting applications for its 2021 scholarships. These include a Prodigy Scholarship co-sponsored by Juanes toward a bachelor’s degree at Berklee College of Music, as well as three Gifted Tuition and 40 Tuition Assistance Scholarships for music students admitted to universities of their choice. All scholarships are awarded to exceptionally talented students with financial needs interested in pursuing careers in Latin music.

The four-year Prodigy Scholarship, this year the Juanes Scholarship, is worth a maximum value of $200,000. It was created six years ago and has been traditionally co-sponsored by Latin stars: including Enrique Iglesias (2015), Juan Luis Guerra (2016), Miguel Bosé (2017), Carlos Vives (2018), Emilio and Gloria Estefan (2019) and Julio Iglesias (2020). This year’s scholarship will fulfill a student’s dream of completing a bachelor’s degree in music at Berklee College  of Music, starting in the fall semester of 2021.  

Juanes, the winner of 23 Latin GRAMMY^® and two GRAMMY^® awards, is a singer, composer, musician and philanthropist who was recognized as the 2019 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year™ for his creative artistry, unprecedented humanitarian efforts, support for rising artists and philanthropic contributions to the world.

“It really means a great deal to me that I can contribute to helping a young musician fulfill the dream of pursuing a serious music education. When I was young, I often dreamed of studying music in a world-class program, but like many young people with that dream in their heart, I did not have the resources at the time,” said Juanes. “I’ve been a strong advocate ever since for music education opportunities at all levels, and it brings me a lot of joy to now know that my years of hard work and long relationship with The Latin Recording Academy will help the talents of a next-generation artist grow at one of the best music schools in the world, Berklee.”

In addition, the Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation will distribute a maximum of $700,000 in scholarships among 43 talented music students between the ages of 17 and 24 with financial constraints, as follows:

• Three four-year Gifted Tuition Scholarships of up to $100,000 each will be awarded for students to earn a bachelor’s degree in music starting in fall 2021 at the university of their choice.
• Forty Tuition Assistance Scholarships of up to $10,000 each will be awarded to students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in music. This is a one-time award that will cover tuition costs over one year: the fall 2021 and spring 2022 semesters.

Gifted Tuition Scholarships and Tuition Assistance Scholarships are restricted to the payment of tuition.

Every year, the Foundation’s Scholarship Committee carefully evaluates applications from a highly competitive pool of aspiring musicians on a variety of skills and under rigorous policies. To date, the Foundation has supported 255 exceptional music students to attend prestigious institutions, with $5.7 million in scholarship, grants, musical instrument donations and educational events worldwide.

Applications and guidelines are available at www.latingrammyculturalfoundation.com. As part of the process, students must complete two audition videos, submit two letters of recommendation and answer two essay questions. The materials can be submitted in English, Spanish or Portuguese.  The deadline to apply is 11:59 p.m. EDT on April 10, 2021.
