Andrea Bocelli will take to the stage at Buckingham Palace on Saturday 4 June as part of celebrations for Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, marking her 70-year reign. The tenor is set to perform at the Platinum Party at the Palace concert which will be broadcast live on BBC One, BBC iPlayer and BBC Radio 2 in the UK as well as ABC News in the US (details here).
Bocelli is part of a glittering line-up of star performers including Alicia Keys, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Craig David, Diana Ross, Duran Duran, Elbow, Sir Elton John, Hans Zimmer, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Nile Rodgers, Queen + Adam Lambert, Sir Rod Stewart and more. There will also be famous names from stage, screen and sport including Sir David Attenborough, David Beckham, Stephen Fry, Dame Julie Andrews and The Royal Ballet, as well as casts and special guests from London West End musicals, plus the full 75-piece Orchestra of the Household Division.
Andrea Bocelli says: “I consider it an enormous privilege to be among the guests on stage at Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee concert and be able to offer my contribution to the soundtrack of such an extraordinary, historic event. With renewed emotion, after having had the honour of celebrating The Queen’s ninetieth birthday, I am about to sing again in front of Her Majesty and the Royal Family, in the hope of worthily expressing – through the universal language of music – my admiration for an equally universal character: one of the most remarkable figures of recent times, deeply connected to the history of our continent and beyond.”
Over the 2.5 hours of the live concert, more than 30 artists and performers will appear on the three-stage set up to mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The evening will pivot around global themes that have been born, or evolved, during the breadth of Her Majesty’s reign due to extraordinary British and Commonwealth contributions including Fashion, Sport, The Environment, 70 Years of Pop Music and Musicals.
Andrea Bocelli is no stranger to Royal events having sung at The Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations, the Royal Variety Performance (three times), and most recently at the Royal Wedding of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank.
With a decorated career spanning more than a quarter of a century, Andrea Bocelli is one of the most celebrated singers in modern history, having amassed millions of fans around the world with his emotive and instantly recognisable voice. He has performed for four Presidents of the United States of America, three Popes, the Royal Family and many Prime Ministers.
