Youth Music Monterey County announces: A Virtual Concert Featuring Bryan Kim, Piano – Sunday, January 31, 2021!

Youth Music Monterey County has been holding online rehearsals since September 2020 and they are pleased to announce their first virtual concert, which will take place on Sunday, January 31, 2021, at 3 p.m. This is a pre-recorded concert representing hundreds of hours of practicing, rehearsals, editing, and engineering. On the program are works by Klaus Badelt (Pirates of the Caribbean), Joseph Haydn (Concerto in D Major, Allegro), featuring their JYO Competition winner, John Williams’ Star Wars Suite, and Aaron Copland’s Hoe Down from his ballet suite Rodeo.

Their piano soloist is Bryan Kim, an 8th grader at The York School, who began taking piano lessons at the age of 4. In grade 3, Bryan auditioned to play percussion for the YMM Junior Youth Orchestra and his talent and potential was appreciated by then conductor, Farkhad Khudyev. Bryan has never missed a practice or concert in YMM for 5 years and is a dedicated member of both the YMM Junior Youth and Honors Orchestras He plays the trumpet for York School in the Concert and Jazz bands. Bryan has also been a member of the Monterey Jazz Festival junior band and Central Coast Section middle school division. He has now added ukulele to his list of instruments. His love for music is endless. Bryan also loves sports. He plays tennis and his goal is to participate in the USTA tournaments during high school years. His favorite academic subject is math. He was recently awarded High Honors at York School for the Semester Honor Roll. Bryan plans to study Medicine and become an orthopedic specialist. He believes it is key to combine work with enjoyment and hopes to become a sports team doctor for the Golden State Warriors or the Seattle Seahawks.  Bryan looks forward to many more years of music performance with YMMC and believes patience, dedication, ownership, and mastery in music help to lay the foundation for a bright future.
